Grade 2/3 Pioneer Day

The students in the Grade 2/3 class did not have to go far to be able to experience a genuine Pioneer Day, right here at school!

Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Logel's personal collection of authentic pioneer items, including various original texts and dictionaries, the children participated in a day of being "back in the day" when children went to school without electricity or running water.

They used quill, ink and slates for writing and "sum practice", desk lanterns for light, worked from original school readers, baked scones and jam from scratch and played games that children played at that time.

The children were able to appreciate all the comforts of living we have today and helped them to realize the difficulties that pioneers faced when they migrated to Upper Canada.
